Thanks to ANTHC, Kokhanok is taking a major step toward ensuring safe and reliable drinking water for our community by constructing a new surface water treatment plant that fully complies with the EPA’s Surface Water Treatment Rule.
Why This Project is Needed:
Our current water treatment plant is over 20 years old and has severely degraded due to extreme weather conditions from Lake Iliamna. The facility faces critical sanitation challenges.
Project Scope: Build a fully compliant water treatment plant with modern infrastructure, ensuring safe and sustainable water access for the community.
Project Benefits:
✔ Safe & Clean Drinking Water – The new facility will provide EPA-compliant water treatment for all residents.
✔ Reliable Year-Round Operations – The new plant will be built to withstand harsh weather conditions.
✔ Improved Community Health – Reducing the risk of waterborne illnesses and ensuring safe sanitation.

To support the growing needs of our community and ensure a safe, efficient, and environmentally sound wastewater system, Kokhanok is undertaking a Sewer Lagoon Expansion Project.
This project will involve the construction of:
- An additional 14,000 sq. ft. percolation cell to expand the capacity of our existing sewer lagoon.
- A sludge disposal cell to properly manage and dispose of accumulated waste material.
Our current wastewater system is nearing capacity, and expansion is essential to:
✔ Prevent overflow and contamination risks
✔ Improve long-term sanitation and environmental protection
✔ Support future growth and development in the community
✔ Ensure compliance with wastewater treatment regulations
